Do We Stand a Chance?

Just watched a 2:57 minute clip on the excellent and highly recommended blog site FAILING SCHOOLS of a recent presentation in Denver by Diane Ravitch to a group of public school teachers and parents. Ravitch recounts how a reporter for the Denver Post has warned her that she has been brought to that fair city to speak before a “shadowy group.” It turns out that the dark and foreboding masses are the very same folks in front of whom she stands.  She asked a member of the group how much money they have in their coffers.  The response: $1700.  Ravitch reminds everyone that the minions of edreform have come to Denver armed with MILLIONS. I ask you: “Do we stand a chance?”

How can humble educators and middle-class parents stand against the formidable forces of the Billionaire Boys’ Club, as Ravitch calls the Gates-Broad-Walmart-whoever foundations? They are everywhere, and they are rich as Croesus, King of Lydia.

It starts at home with teachers and parents opposing Gates-Broad-Walmart-whoever’s lowlife puppets call Rodel and not signing onto federal grant programs like Race to The Top that leads back to the privateers. Supporting those programs only reduces effectiveness of real local control benefiting parents , teachers and students.
